Amber Portwood became a celebrity by taking part in a TV reality series, Teen Mom 2, which aired on MTV in 2011. The Teen Mom series has been a hit since it started and follows the lives of four teenagers who fell pregnant and became moms. Teen Mom is a spin-off of the popular reality show 16 And Pregnant, where Amber Portwood first appeared as a pregnant 16 year old trying to come to terms with her pregnancy and battling ordinary teenage problems.

The 2 documentary series’ have been instrumental in turning Amber Portwood and her daughter, Leah into a star, as well as the father of her daughter, Gary Shirley. Aside from the shooting of Teen Mom 2, Amber Portwood has also appeared in the follow up shows with Dr Drew and the reunion show, along with fellow cast members, Catelynn Lowell, Farrah Abraham, and Maci Bookout.

When Teen Mom aired, it became the highest rated MTV show in a year, with over 2 million viewers in total. Each week, the 4 teenage moms are followed and we find out what was going on in their lives, how they are coping with issues like marriage, support, break ups, adoption, and more, as well as what they are trying to do to finish high school, go to college, and get a job under some very critical eyes and under the immense pressure of raising a young child.

Amber Portwood became even better known after an altercation with the father of her daughter which led to court cases and made huge news all across the country. This setback has not stopped her, though and has continued with her TV career. Portwood has a brother, Shawn and mother, Tonya.
